NEW SCHOLARSHIP FOR IOWA WOMEN IN FOOD & BEVERAGE
The Greater Des Moines chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier International (LDEI) is pleased to announce the Give a Girl a Knife Scholarship, a new scholarship for Iowa women studying in the food, beverage, and hospitality fields. Future chefs, pastry chefs, caterers, craft beer brewers, sommeliers, distillers, restaurateurs, nutritionists, hotel managers, event planners, farmers, cheesemakers, and food writers are encouraged to apply!
The chapter will be awarding up to three $1,000 scholarships this year to qualified applicants who demonstrate excellence in their studies and show promise for success in the industry. Top applicants will also receive a custom engraved, top-quality chef’s knife. “A knife is one tool most of us in the culinary industry can’t live without,” said Nichole Aksamit, president of LDEI Greater Des Moines. “And a sharp, well-made knife—one that helps you work more safely, efficiently, and creatively—is something few students start out with. So ‘Give a Girl a Knife’ is a fitting metaphor for what we do at LDEI: We are professional food women helping other women find the tools, the education, and the network they need to succeed.”
Interested Iowa women may download the application below starting September 1, 2020.
Applications must be received no later than November 1, 2020. Award decisions will be made in December 2020, and scholarship recipients will be honored at a reception in January 2021.
