Community Impact

Giving

The Les Dames d’Escoffier Greater Des Moines Chapter works to establish and nurture relationships within the Des Moines community and give back to those organizations and individuals whose work aligns with our mission. Our priorities include:

  • Helping women in food, beverage, and hospitality industries succeed

  • Promoting and enhancing sustainable food systems

  • Working to ensure food security to all people

Our Philanthropy committee works year-round to identify new initiatives and causes to support. In addition to our scholarship program, we focus on activities and events that will raise awareness and help fund local causes that raise environmental awareness, support sustainable food systems, fight hunger, and reduce food waste.

Scholarships

In addition to supporting other local food-related non-profits, a portion of funds raised from our annual Wine & Pie Drive-By go to support our Give a Girl a Knife Scholarship. Each year, several $1,000 awards are open to Iowa women studying in the food, beverage, and hospitality fields. Future chefs, pastry chefs, caterers, craft beer brewers, sommeliers, distillers, restaurateurs, nutritionists, hotel managers, event planners, farmers, cheesemakers, and food writers are encouraged to apply!

These scholarships are available to qualified applicants who demonstrate excellence in their studies and show promise for success in the industry.

Applications for 2023 will open soon.
